Local Linux Worker

Use this when the Chromebook should run ffmpeg and push to Twitch instead of the hosted worker.

1. Enable Linux

1. Open ChromeOS Settings.
2. Go to About ChromeOS, then Developers.
3. Turn on Linux development environment.
4. Open the Terminal app when setup finishes.

2. Install Node.js

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y curl git
curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_20.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt install -y nodejs

3. Download Pixel Stream

git clone https://github.com/yanike/pixel-stream.git pixel-stream
cd pixel-stream
composer install
npm install
cp -n .env.example .env
php artisan key:generate
npm run build

4. Start The Worker

ALLOWED_ORIGINS=http://127.0.0.1:8000 npm run worker

Also run npm start for Laravel, open http://127.0.0.1:8000, and enable Local Linux worker in Capture settings. Set the worker URL to http://127.0.0.1:5177.

Hosted Studio With Local Worker

ALLOWED_ORIGINS=https://stream.example.com \
WORKER_TOKEN=replace-with-a-long-random-token \
HOST=127.0.0.1 \
PORT=5177 \
npm run worker

1. Open the hosted Pixel Stream Studio.
2. Check Local Linux worker.
3. Set Worker URL to http://127.0.0.1:5177.
4. Paste the same worker token.
5. Select capture and go live.

Troubleshooting

• If the local Studio does not open, confirm the Laravel server is running on port 8000.
• If port 5177 is busy, start the worker with PORT=5180 npm run worker.
• If the hosted studio cannot connect, check ALLOWED_ORIGINS and the worker token.
• If streaming stutters, lower bitrate to 2500k, close extra apps, and turn off camera overlay.
